POST-OPERATIVE AND CC INTERFACILITY TRANSFER
Richmond Agitation Sedation Scale (RASS): Used as sedation target goal for Post Surgical/CC
Analgesia and Sedation Management, CPG ID 61
Patient Care En Route to the Receiving Hospital
• Patient vital signs will be monitored continuously en route and documented at least every
5–15min (q5min if on pressors) per the transferring physician’s orders.
• Reassess the patient at least every 15min and address events as necessary following the
transferring physician’s orders and protocols for the specific illness or injury.
• Assess pain control, sedation, and need for paralysis. Redose medications as needed in
accordance with the transferring physician’s orders. Ideally, paralytic medication should not
be administered near the end of the flight. Significant, adjunctive analgesia may be required
to compensate for initial lift, landing, and in-flight combat maneuvers; therefore, Flight
Paramedic/Provider should consider carrying higher volumes of analgesia that would be
normally used in ground transport or fixed facilities.
• All events will be addressed with appropriate interventions according to the transferring
physician’s orders and protocols. All interventions require reassessment of the patient’s
response to the intervention.
• All en route care, including ventilator changes, medications, events, interventions, and the
patient’s response, will be documented on the appropriate patient care documentation.
